The Peninsula Tokyo: Two Rates for the Same Room, Same Price — Only One Includes Breakfast
Whenever I book The Peninsula Tokyo, I pull every rate for the same room and look at them together.
This time: October 20–23, Superior Room, two adults, three nights.
The numbers are identical, and both rates can be cancelled free. The entire difference is what is included.
What the Virtuoso rate adds
- Full breakfast for two, daily — in the lobby restaurant or sent to the room
- A USD 100 credit for dining or spa, good at Peter, Hei Fung Terrace, The Lobby, room service, the minibar and the spa
- A welcome gift
- Flexible check-in and check-out times (blacked out on some dates; fine for these)
- An upgrade to the next room category, subject to availability on arrival
Three days of breakfast for two plus $100 to spend, for not one yen more. This is not paying extra for benefits. It is the same price buying two different things.
There is a cheaper rate
Prepaid and non-refundable: ¥769,688, which is ¥85,387 (about $550) less. But no breakfast, no credit, and no changes or refunds. It only makes sense if your plans are locked and you do not intend to eat or drink at the hotel.
