A Shower Before the City

Your first plan in London can be a shower and a change of clothes. Museums and department stores can come later. After a long flight, having somewhere to get yourself ready at your own pace feels like a reasonable place to begin. I like counting that morning as part of the holiday, rather than starting the clock when the room becomes available in the afternoon.

Peninsula Time makes room for that idea. Check-in can be as early as 6 a.m. and check-out as late as 10 p.m., at no extra charge. With arrangements made ahead and availability confirmed, a red-eye arrival could lead straight to some time in your room. Get yourself settled, then decide how to spend the day. That order makes sense to me.

The Bathtub TV Can Take Some Consideration

The Peninsula London is in Belgravia, overlooking Hyde Park Corner and Wellington Arch. Buckingham Palace, Harrods and the Victoria and Albert Museum are nearby. Those names alone could keep the itinerary busy.

The rooms offer reasons to pause. Many have floor-to-ceiling windows looking over the London skyline. In the marble bathrooms, a deep soak bathtub has an integrated TV, alongside a separate walk-in rain shower and double wash areas. Use the shower when you want to get going; save the bath for an evening after the museums.

Somehow, deciding what to watch from the bathtub becomes a legitimate item of holiday planning. I can see how that happens. On a morning without a pressing departure time, looking out of the window can also count as an arrangement.

Double wash areas give family members space to get ready without taking turns. There are customised interactive bedside and desk tablets, plus LED touch screen wall panels. An expansive inner courtyard provides off-street access, and the hotel has on-site parking. The car and luggage can have their place in the arrival plan, too.

Use the Morning in London, Keep the Evening in Paris

If London starts the trip, confirmed early check-in could mean a shower, fresh clothes and breakfast before shopping in Knightsbridge. There is time to talk about what everyone wants to see before heading out. That feels more like a holiday than beginning the sightseeing schedule straight from the flight.

Pair London with Paris and Peninsula Time has another use. With a late flight from Paris home to Los Angeles, an arranged late check-out could let you spend the day out, return for a shower and then leave for the airport.

Knowing you can come back to the room changes how you can use that final day. Stay out a little longer if you feel like it. Come back earlier if you would rather. You can finish your time in the city at your own pace.

Pack the Swimsuit

On a London packing list, a swimsuit can easily lose out to shopping and museums. Here, I would give it space. The 25-metre indoor swimming pool has submerged speakers for underwater music. A swim can be an activity in its own right. There is also a spa, health club, dedicated saunas and steam rooms, and a Jacuzzi. Leave some time to use them.

Dinner can stay at the hotel, too. The Rooftop Bar and Terrace serves contemporary British cuisine and has an outdoor dining terrace. Weather permitting, the roof could be your evening destination. There is also 24-hour in-room dining for a day when eating in your room feels right.

For a family stay, ask about connecting rooms while choosing accommodation. The hotel has 29 connecting rooms and 10 specially equipped accommodations for accessibility needs. Special tours, classes and cultural activities can be chosen around your interests. Part of the appeal is having London outside and a reason to stay in.

Book Breakfast Along With the Room

If an unhurried morning is part of the plan, consider breakfast when booking the room. The advisor-only rate or Virtuoso can include breakfast for two, a hotel credit and a room upgrade, at the same rate as the hotel’s website. The benefits for your booking need checking.

For a longer stay, check the stay four, pay three offer. Families can check a second room at half price, while a London-Paris trip may qualify for a two-city benefit. Start with how you already want to travel.

If swimming and dinner on the roof are already on your list, there are reasons to linger. The hotel credit should also line up with spending you actually have in mind. That is where these offers become useful.
