Beyond the Gala, an Afternoon
An advisor goes to Maui for a gala. You might be more interested in the afternoon outside it. Coffee, a pool, a spa: put those into a vacation and the itinerary already looks better with a few spaces left blank.
In 2024, I was again invited to the advisor gala on Maui, reserved for the top 1% of advisors in the industry. This was my third consecutive year.

I like that freedom. Find out what is available before leaving home; decide what appeals once the vacation begins. Scheduling everything after coffee would certainly make my work look thorough.
Face-to-face conversations with general managers can cover new options, service arrangements and the pace that suits families or honeymooners. Those are useful details for the next itinerary. They give the conversation somewhere practical to go.
Be Specific About Comfort
A honeymoon may put privacy first. A trip with older family members may call for more thought about dining and pace. Choosing the hotel settles the beginning of the conversation.
If the view matters more than room size, tell me. If you need connecting rooms, put that near the top of the list. “Comfortable” becomes a clearer request when we talk about views, bed types and how the rooms connect.

Plenty of Facilities, Very Few Plans
At Kapalua, a restaurant can be the day’s destination. Having nowhere to go afterward is a perfectly complete plan. Extensive facilities also give traveling companions somewhere to look when they want different things from the day.
Keep the scale in mind. The hotel lists 40 meeting rooms and can accommodate large events. If you want a very small property with little sense of that activity, consider your dates and room choice carefully.
The facilities can stay optional. Skipping tennis or leaving the jogging track unexplored creates nothing to catch up on. If rest is the point, leave the gaps alone.
Settle the Room, Keep the Day Flexible
What you do in the afternoon can wait. A view or layout central to the trip should be chosen when you book.
