Four Seasons Resort Tamarindo: The Pacific-Coast Mexico Resort You Will Not Want to Leave
Honestly, I arrived at Four Seasons Tamarindo without high expectations. Mexico’s Pacific coast has no shortage of resorts. Then I saw the sunset from the room on the first night, and knew the trip had been worth it.
The room
Through the door: a wall of art, warm timber, and a bed facing a full wall of glass. At night, with the lights off, moonlight on the floor and nothing to hear but the waves.
Golf
This is one of the most scenic courses I have played. On the tee, the Pacific is on your left and the palms on your right, and now and then a whale breaches offshore. After 18 holes you do not want to leave.
Beach and pool
A private beach ringed by rock, with water clear to the bottom. The pool is even better: lying at the edge with a coconut and the Pacific breeze, you simply dissolve.
Food
The lobster and crab at dinner stopped me — seafood that fresh is almost unreasonable. Breakfast is handmade tortillas and local coffee in the ocean-view restaurant, unhurried and satisfying. The sushi at the Japanese restaurant was unexpectedly good.
Sunset
Sunset hour was the high point of every day: on the terrace, watching the sun drop into the Pacific while the sky went from orange to deep violet. Beautiful past the point of words.
Four Seasons Tamarindo is the kind of place you keep replaying afterward — far from everything, nature and luxury folded into one. For a Mexico beach trip, would you pick the Pacific side or the Caribbean?
