NIHI Sumba: Retreat Places, Room Costs and Dates

Before choosing dates at NIHI Sumba, decide whether you want a small-group retreat or a stay with riding, time on the ground and a Spa Safari. The resort’s information as of 29 September 2026 listed both June 2027 retreats as fully booked. A room search can compare accommodation; it cannot secure a retreat place. Enquire about the waitlist or a private programme before committing to a non-refundable room for that purpose.
Keep these three prices separate
- The June retreat: USD 10,000 per person, tax included, accommodation extra. The programme lasts five days, with five or six guests per group.
- Accommodation reference: IDR 165,165,000 for five nights in a Kasambi Suite, one room for two adults, including taxes and service charge. This was The Great Escape rate: non-refundable, new bookings only, and not combinable with other offers.
- The lighter Equine Experience Package: USD 1,388++ per person, plus 21% tax and service charge, excluding accommodation. For in-house guests only, listed as bookable through 22 December 2026. It is a different product from the June 2027 retreat.
Choose the Experience Before Asking for a Place
The published Candice Webster programme runs for five days with five or six guests. Each guest has a private session with her, alongside time with the Horse Whisperers, beach and island rides, yoga, somatic practice, Swimming with Horses and a Spa Safari.
Non-riders can stay on the ground or take a private beach lesson. The resort describes the programme as equine-guided healing; that is the provider’s description, not a treatment result assessed in this article. This discussion is based on the published programme rather than a firsthand account. When enquiring, explain your riding experience, any concerns around horses and how you would like to participate.
Other published options include the four-night Group Retreat on 18–22 October 2026 and year-round Private Equine Retreats with a three-night minimum. Private dates and content can be discussed, but require individual confirmation. For June, ask about a waitlist or future dates when they are announced.
If swimming with horses, groundwork and spa time are the main attractions, consider the separate Equine Experience Package. Its five-day programme includes an equine connection session, a sunrise ride or walk, a half-day Spa Safari at Nihioka and two specially designed dinners. Its booking deadline and price terms do not carry over to the June retreat.
A Room Total Is Not a Per-Person Retreat Fee
The room searches taken on 29 September 2026 covered 1–6 June and 8–13 June 2027. Both returned the same five-night price for the one-bedroom, ocean-view Kasambi Suite. The accommodation amount above covers one room, two adults and five nights, including tax and service charge. These are lodging search windows, not confirmation of the retreat dates or places.
A two-adult room quote does not include two retreat registrations. Accommodation is quoted in Indonesian rupiah; system-generated US dollar conversions are estimates that move with exchange rates. Keep the room and activity currencies distinct when making a budget.
The Great Escape includes full board, return shared ground transfers, a minibar replenished once daily and laundry for six pieces per person per day. Its non-refundable, new-booking and non-combination conditions matter before payment. The alternative refundable Edge of Wildness rate lists a cancellation deadline ninety days before arrival; recheck the exact deadline and payment schedule for the chosen booking.
In that search, the advisor and public prices matched for the same Kasambi Suite and The Great Escape conditions. The source material lists a Virtuoso resort credit equivalent to USD 100, with an arrival upgrade, early check-in and late check-out subject to availability. The credit cannot pay the room rate and has no cash value if unused. Confirm the benefits against the actual room booking; they are not a retreat discount.
What Else Belongs in a Five-Night Stay?
The resort describes 28 villas on ocean-facing terraces, with outdoor space and private pools. Its semi-open bathrooms and sand floors make the individual villa layout worth checking before selecting a category.
A full Spa Safari can occupy a day: roughly ninety minutes on foot or an open safari vehicle to Nihi Oka, morning yoga, a fire-cooked breakfast on a clifftop treehouse platform, then massages. That describes the full experience. The lighter equine package specifies a half-day version, so do not assume identical inclusions.
Sumba’s Sandalwood horses also have a place in local culture. In Marapu belief they connect people and ancestors; they feature in the Pasola festival in February and March. Resort material describes more than ten years of Sandalwood Stables and a rescue programme treating about thirty island horses every three to four months. Beyond the stables, Occy’s Left admits fifteen registered surfers a day, and more than ninety per cent of the staff are local.
Allow Time to Reach Sumba
Denpasar to Tambolaka takes around sixty to ninety minutes by air, followed by roughly ninety minutes on mountain roads. If possible, leave a buffer night in Bali on either side rather than compressing the journey into a three-day trip.
The resort material points to May–October for entering the ocean with horses, with weather and local arrangements still relevant. If that experience drives the trip, confirm the season, participation requirements and available appointments separately.
Confirm the Activity, Then Match the Room
For a retreat, tell Jay the intended programme, number of guests, riding experience and whether a waitlist or private arrangement would work. Match the room after the activity place and terms are clear. For a stay with individual experiences, search your own dates and enquire about those appointments. Neither room search reserves an activity place.

Room rates are a live pull from the booking system on 29 September 2026, on this basis: one room, two adults, five nights, total including tax and service charge, for arrival windows 1–6 June 2027 and 8–13 June 2027, both windows on the same basis.
