Book Lizard Island Resort for black marlin with the boat dates and room category in view together. Based on hotel information and the rates checked, rather than a personal stay, my judgment is that it suits serious anglers and couples who want a dinghy and a beach. Those holidays need different budgets. The public offer gives a complimentary fourth private Black Marlin charter when you book three, but requires Oceanview Plunge Pool Villas or above and a minimum four-night stay.
For 16 to 21 November 2026, five nights, one room and two adults, the OCEANVIEW PLUNGE POOL VILLA total was AUD 23,550.00, including taxes. It meets the promotion’s room-category threshold. Private charters cost extra; their quotation still needs checking, as does boat availability. A room showing as available does not confirm a fishing slot. That is where the fishing budget has to begin.
Give the Fishing Another Full Day
For a serious angler, the geography makes the case. Lizard Island is a short run from the Ribbon Reefs, particularly Ribbon Reef Number 10. These waters are known for black marlin over 1,000 pounds, giving heavy tackle and full days at sea a very specific purpose. Fishing follows tag and release unless a fish is weighed for an IGFA record.
The resort uses a custom 34ft sportfisher. The appeal of the complimentary charter is another complete window on the water. Fish remain outside the itinerary’s jurisdiction. Four charters need four full days, so five nights is the more practical plan, keeping arrival and departure separate from fishing.
A companion interested in diving can also investigate Cod Hole. At the northern end of Ribbon Reef 10, about fifty minutes away by boat, it is known for resident potato cod. Dive charters are charged separately and need their own arrangements confirmed. They are not part of the water activities included with the room.
A Full Island Day Without a Fishing Rod
The motorised dinghies give non-anglers a reason to come in their own right. Their use is included in the room rate. Guests can take the helm, bring a refreshments pack prepared by the resort, and choose among twenty-four beaches. Reading that detail, the holiday starts to take a practical shape: which beach today, and where to unpack the hamper?
Paddleboards, clear-view kayaks and snorkelling gear for the length of the stay are included too. Couples who like to leave days open still have concrete ways to spend them. There is little reason to fill every blank in the itinerary before leaving home.
Daily meals, unlimited non-alcoholic drinks, selected Australian and New Zealand wines, beer, spirits and sparkling wine are included, along with a minibar restocked daily. Cocktails, the Cellar Master list, the degustation menu and Essentia Day Spa treatments cost extra.
Salt Water is the main dining venue. A meal in a private pavilion overlooking Anchor Bay is another arrangement to raise before booking. Having meals included does not itself confirm that particular setting.
Leave Monday for the Research Station
Beyond the resort, the national park island’s other buildings belong to the Australian Museum’s Lizard Island Research Station. About a hundred research projects take place here each year, and resort guests can join a tour every Monday. Keep Monday in mind when choosing dates. It adds something quite different from swimming and meals.
The resort has forty rooms, suites and villas spread along the curve of Anchor Bay and the slopes of Sunset Point. White timber buildings and a turquoise lagoon share the island with a working centre for studying the Great Barrier Reef. That combination is more interesting than a string of hotel accolades. Come for the beaches, or bring questions about the sea around them.
The Cheaper Dates Come With a Different Room
Without a charter plan, early December deserves a separate calculation. For 3 to 8 December 2026, five nights, one room and two adults, the visible GARDENVIEW ROOM total was AUD 13,075.00, including taxes. This category does not meet the charter promotion’s threshold. The qualifying villa was the same price in both windows. The lower entry price is not a shortcut into the fishing offer.
November is the steadier weather choice; December brings greater wet-season risk. The rates checked carried a cancellation deadline of “30 days before arrival” and required a deposit guarantee. The deposit amount still needs confirmation with the hotel. Resolve that before committing if your dates remain uncertain.
Getting to the island adds a separate cost. The 2026 resort guest fare for return flights from Cairns is AUD 1,130 per person, excluded from the room rate. The baggage allowance covers checked and hand luggage together: twenty-five kilos per person, falling to twenty kilos from 1 December to 31 March.
The resort accepts children aged 10 and over. November through May is marine stinger season; wear the stinger suits provided by the hotel when entering the water.
Put the Holiday You Want Into the Booking
The advisor-only rate and public rate matched on the dates checked. The booking still needs the eligible room category, four available charter days and return flights established together. The promotion cannot be combined with other offers. Whether Virtuoso benefits can remain attached requires confirmation for each booking.
