Los Cabos: Christmas with a Mexican Sense of Place

Christmas can feel distinctly Mexican. At Las Ventanas al Paraíso in Los Cabos, ornaments hang from a bare desert tree at the far end of the infinity pool. White walls, blue sea and bare branches keep their place in the picture. The decorations have a point of view: a holiday should still let you know where you are.
The hotel’s name means “the windows to paradise.” White adobe buildings spread along the Sea of Cortez, just two storeys high. Festivities run from early December through New Year’s Eve. Before fastening your plans to Christmas Day, decide how you want to spend the holiday.
Make the Terrace Part of the Holiday
Choose the room carefully here. Much of the holiday could happen in it. The view leads across the terrace and pool to the Sea of Cortez; baths, sea views and stargazing all give you reasons to stay put. An empty space in the itinerary has somewhere to go.
The entry-level Junior Suite already offers 960 square feet, an adobe fireplace, a marble bathroom and a bathtub. That makes a persuasive case for stopping at the entry category. Spending more should change how you spend your time, rather than simply give you more space.

The Oceanview Rooftop Terrace Jr. Suite gives that extra spending a purpose. A jacuzzi is built into the balcony, with a fireplace beside it and a terrace facing the sea. Book this room, and I would make soaking and looking out at the water an actual plan. Otherwise, I have carefully helped select a terrace for an itinerary that barely lets you use it.
Suites have telescopes for stargazing and seasonal whale watching. For a holiday with parents or family, consider the villas too. The one-bedroom oceanview villa has its own outdoor pool and somewhere to gather. The right room configuration still needs checking against the size of your party.

Let the Table Set the Occasion
The table says more about the celebrations than the decorations do. Día de Muertos on 1 November brings marigolds, candlelit altars and a tasting menu inspired by the tradition. For Thanksgiving on 26–27 November, lamb cooks overnight in a pit using the ancestral barbacoa method. A meal like that is a sound reason to choose your dates.
There is a less formal way to eat, too. Virtuoso guests receive a taco and margarita tasting at The Oasis, for up to two people per suite. You can dress an evening around dinner or give tacos your full attention. Let the mood decide how ceremonial the meal becomes.
For a proposal or anniversary, the hotel has a romance department that can arrange a long candlelit table on the beach. Personal and poolside butlers are also part of the offering. Having help with the arrangements leaves more room to take part in the occasion yourself.

Eight outdoor pools sit among the two-storey buildings, with the Twin Pools reserved for adults. Beyond them are sport fishing, Razors and ATVs in the desert, a warm healing ritual and horseback riding on the beach. Rosewood Explorers offers children’s activities during the festive season. Leave time for the pools. An unfilled afternoon makes sense at a hotel chosen for spending time in.
New Year’s Has Its Reasons. A Holiday Can Start Earlier.
For a winter escape with a festive atmosphere, check 8–11 December first. The celebrations have already begun. Every wish for the holiday does not have to fit into New Year’s.

For the same Oceanview Rooftop Terrace Jr. Suite, 8–11 December, 3 nights, averaged $2,619.10 per night; 24 December to 2 January, 9 nights, averaged $5,613.10 per night. Different stay lengths may also affect the nightly average. Even so, the change in budget is clear. If New Year’s itself marks something important, give that date its share of the budget.
On the dates I checked where room categories matched, Virtuoso rates equalled the public flexible rates. They also included daily full breakfast for two, a resort credit per suite per stay, and the tasting. Those are useful additions to the same room rate. Compare the public prepaid option where available, too, then choose the arrangement that fits the way you intend to stay.
The Sea Keeps Its Own Calendar
Coming for whales? Turn the calendar to January. Gray and humpback whales migrate south from mid-December, with peak numbers in January and February. Late December is the opening act. The telescope in the suite is an invitation to look; what appears still depends on the animals’ movements.
For daily ocean swimming, choose elsewhere. Heavy shore break, a steep drop-off and strong undertow leave no protected swimming area directly in front of the hotel. Playa Bledito has an artificial breakwater and is about ten minutes away on foot along the sand. Conditions on the day still need attention.
With children, remember that Rosewood Explorers mainly operates during the festive season, summer and Easter. Check the full room-category name before booking as well. Ocean View and Ocean Front are different categories.
Put the Details in the Confirmation
For an anniversary, honeymoon or holiday with parents, start with how you want to spend time together. Send me your dates and party size. I will re-price them, compare advisor-only and public rates, and pass your room and celebration requests to the hotel before booking. I will also make sure the confirmation spells out breakfast, benefits, the cancellation deadline and any prepayment.
The Ocean Front Junior Suite in buildings 200 and 300 does not accommodate children. New Year’s departure-date restrictions need checking against your itinerary. An upgrade of one room category on arrival is subject to availability.
The November and early-December rates checked had a cancellation deadline 28 days before arrival; the public prepaid options were also marked refundable. The verified 24 December and 26 December arrivals had a 92-day deadline, corresponding to 23 September and 25 September 2026 respectively. These are cancellation-policy dates, not booking deadlines.
Nightly averages are calculated from the total for each corresponding stay.
Want the live rates across these arrival windows laid out side by side, amenities included?
See live rates for Las Ventanas al ParaísoPromotional facts are taken from the resort’s original email of 8 September 2026, which is a festive-season programming announcement and publishes no discount, amount, minimum stay or deadline; nothing here should be read as an offer. Rates are live pulls from the booking system dated 16 September 2026, all for one room and two adults in USD, each figure being the approximate total the rate system returns. The three-window comparison holds the room constant — OCEANVIEW ROOFTOP TERRACE JR. SUITE, 1,400 sq ft / 130 sq m — on the advisor-channel flexible rate (marked refundable, not an advance-purchase prepaid rate), for 8–11 Dec (3 nights), 26–29 Nov (3 nights) and 24 Dec – 2 Jan (9 nights); per-night figures are that total divided by nights — arithmetic, not a quoted rate. One point on tax needs stating plainly: this pull flagged the rates as including taxes and surcharges, while simultaneously labelling them an “approximate total” (ApproxTotalPrice) — and the resort’s own terms, returned with the same pull, read “rates do not include 14% tax and 15% service charge or transfer fees.” The two do not agree. The practical reading is that the final folio may add those two lines (roughly 29%) on top of the figures above. This article takes no side between them; the resort’s confirmed basis governs, and I will get that point answered in writing before anything is booked. The $4,927.80 cited elsewhere is a different room (8–11 Dec, gardenview King Junior Suite, 960 sq ft) and is used in no multiple; the lowest rate returned in each window falls on a different room category and those figures are not comparable across dates, so they are not compared here. On guarantee terms: all 85 rate lines returned across the four windows carry GuaranteeType DEP (deposit required); the rate system’s count of rates bookable without a deposit was zero in every window and its cheapest-bookable map empty — which establishes that no no-deposit option came back in this pull, not that none exists, since an interface, mapping or availability-display anomaly cannot be ruled out. Every figure quoted here therefore comes from the all-returned-rates basis. The deposit amount, its timing and the payment method were not returned and need the resort to confirm. What the penalty or refund would be after the cancellation deadline, and what terms would apply to a booking made after it, were not returned either and are not inferred here. The multiples and differences (2.14×, 1.42×, $522.90) are arithmetic on same-room figures only. Cancellation deadlines and departure restrictions are as returned at the time of the pull; actual refund terms govern at booking, and the 27–30 December refusal proves only that the departure date was restricted, with any minimum stay unconfirmed by the resort. The advisor-channel rate and the public flexible rate were identical to the cent on the rows where both channels returned the same room category; the Thanksgiving window returned no same-category public flexible rate to compare and is excluded from that finding. This is a limited pull (the 8–11 December request reported 84 matching rows, of which 60 were returned) and is not evidence that no other rate exists anywhere; amenities are separate and upgrades are subject to availability. Virtuoso amenity details are quoted from the rate terms returned with the live pull. Resort scale, pools, kids’ club, sea conditions, whale season and weather were verified against public sources as of September 2026; the absence of a protected swimming area refers to the water directly in front of this resort and is not a judgement about neighbouring properties; sea conditions vary with weather and season, so follow lifeguard and on-site guidance before entering the water.
