Italian, Asian, seafood, then an evening for Cocina de Autor. Looking at Grand Velas Los Cabos, I start filling the dinner calendar before planning the holiday. Traveling with children should leave room for adults’ appetites too. Researching restaurants only to abandon them because the logistics get awkward is a familiar disappointment.

This all-suite resort has 307 suites in the tourist corridor between San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas. The appeal is simple: give dinner some thought, and let the days stay loose.

Start with the Ocean View Suite

First, choose a room you can happily spend time in. The Ambassador Ocean View suite has 1,081 sq ft, a terrace, a Jacuzzi and butler service. Naps, getting changed and lingering on the terrace count as holiday time. The room should accommodate them.

All six categories I checked had ocean views. If the budget needs discipline, protect the dates first. Move up for a particular outlook or a private plunge pool. Molton Brown amenities and nightly turndown add polish; the entry suite’s space already gives you a reason to settle in.

Some Evenings Are for Dinner

Here is where the holiday research gets interesting. The resort has 7 restaurants. Cocina de Autor earned a Michelin star in the inaugural MICHELIN Guide Mexico in 2024 and retained it through the next two editions. Reserve an evening for it, then give the other dinners different directions.

Italian and Asian cooking, meat and seafood offer plenty to consider, with both à la carte and buffet options. Meals, premium domestic and imported spirits, the daily replenished minibar, 24-hour room service, tax and service charge are included.

I like the freedom in that arrangement. Dinner can be an occasion; another meal can be an easy decision. Turning all-inclusive into an assignment to recover every penny sounds suspiciously like bringing work on holiday.

Growing Children Need Different Spaces

Family suites come prepared with a teepee, stroller, rocking chair, baby bottles and bibs. Put those beside your packing list before filling the suitcase.

The kids’ club takes ages four to twelve; the separate teens club takes ages thirteen to eighteen. Growing up should count in the holiday arrangements. Older children get their own space.

There are three panoramic pools, including an adults-only pool. Traveling together can still leave everyone some time in the places they enjoy. A little space between family plans sounds rather appealing.

Include the Connecting Option

With grandparents or older children, separate bedrooms and a connection between them may matter. The two-bedroom family suite joins two Ambassador Ocean View suites. Its total space matches booking them separately.

For 20–24 October, the connected option was $584 cheaper.

The grander-sounding room name came with the smaller bill. Compare party size, children’s ages and connecting-room needs before automatically booking separate rooms.

What the Same Room Rate Adds

For a budget reference, the Ambassador Ocean View suite was $6,488 for 7–11 December. Consider that figure alongside how much time you want to spend here, meals included.

Same suite, same pull date: the public all-inclusive rate and the Virtuoso rate, both $6,620

Across 21 comparable pairs, the advisor-only rate matched the public standard all-inclusive rate. Virtuoso adds a resort credit per room per stay. Breakfast is already included; it cannot take credit twice.

A separate public promotional rate has eligibility restrictions. That belongs in the comparison too. Establish which rates you can book before weighing their benefits.

Read What Comes After “50%”

The “50%” applies to teens’ stays. This promotion does not advertise half-price rooms at Grand Velas Los Cabos. Keep the subject attached to the discount, and the family budget becomes easier to follow.

Across the three promotional images, Mar del Cabo advertises 20% off rooms in selected categories. The children-stay-free headline also remains unresolved against terms excluding child fees. That needs clarification from the hotel before booking.

Start the Calendar in Early December

With flexible dates, start with early December. It is dry season; October remains within the eastern Pacific hurricane season. Seasonality helps guide the choice. It cannot guarantee the weather during your stay.

If October fits the family calendar, work with it. Confirm the room before arranging the rest: 13–17 October returned no rooms under the same conditions, while the other four windows did. A quiet-looking calendar does not mean an empty hotel.

Bring Your Own Interests Along Too

This suits families who want the resort to be their main destination, particularly those who care about food and want less daily organizing. Children’s ages and routines matter. Adults’ tastes deserve consideration too.

Picture how you would use the day: time in the ocean-view suite, a visit to the pool, or children heading to the club for their age group. You do not have to work through the facilities list. Find the parts each of you would enjoy.

That is the appeal of all-inclusive here. There are restaurants for evenings you want to make special, and ample reason to stay when going out for a meal feels like more organizing. A family holiday can feel easy and still have a sense of occasion.

If Dinner Means Going Out, Look Elsewhere

Without children, and with a different local restaurant planned each evening, I would look elsewhere first. All-day dining and family facilities could sit unused while your holiday happens outside.

The adults-only Grand Velas Boutique has 79 suites if a smaller property appeals; Mar del Cabo has 48 apartment-style suites. For meals arranged separately, consider [Las Ventanas](https://flybest.org/journal-en/las-ventanas-los-cabos-festive-season-when-to-go/). Meals are excluded there, so accommodation totals cannot be compared directly.

Let Jay Handle the Preparation

I’m Jay, FlyBest’s Virtuoso advisor. Before booking, I’ll re-price Ambassador Ocean View, the two-bedroom family suite and higher categories for your dates, party size and children’s ages. I’ll compare advisor, public and promotional rates. The written benefit confirmation needs to explain child charges, the teen discount and whether promotions combine with advisor benefits.

These rates require an advance deposit and are marked refundable, with a cancellation deadline of “1 day before arrival”; specific penalties still need confirmation. Arrival upgrades, early check-in and late check-out are subject to availability.

This offer’s December stay window ends on 16 December, excluding New Year. SE Spa’s seven-step Water Ceremony is outside the standard all-inclusive rate. Grand Velas Boutique’s promotional Water Ceremony excludes Thanksgiving.

I pass your family’s room and arrival requests to the hotel before arrival.

Entry-suite comparisons use approximate tax-inclusive totals for one room, two adults and four nights; family suites are compared by the corresponding room category.

Promotion benefits and dates are transcribed from the three image attachments to a 15 August 2026 trade email from Velas Resorts Los Cabos; accompanying property descriptions are editorial context. The email body contains no figures, and the resort’s published terms govern. Rates are a live rate pull from the booking system on 16 September 2026, on a single basis throughout: Grand Velas Los Cabos, one room, two adults, four nights, US dollars, approximate total with taxes included (every returned row is flagged as inclusive of taxes and surcharges). Per-night figures are the total divided by the number of nights — arithmetic, not a quoted rate. The advisor rate and the standard public all-inclusive rate were the same figure in all 21 comparable pairs; amenities are separate, and upgrades and early/late check-out are subject to availability. Whether this promotion combines with the Virtuoso amenities is not addressed by the email or by public sources and is subject to the resort’s confirmation. A further public rate roughly 10% below the standard rate carries a qualification requirement that could not be verified through the resort’s public channels; this article makes no claim that it is available to everyone. On the pull date every returned row required a deposit guarantee and showed a cancellation deadline of one day before arrival; the terms shown at the time of booking govern. Resort and destination details (suite count, restaurants, MICHELIN status, club ages, spa charging, weather and hurricane season) were verified against public sources as of September 2026.
