Kaua’i: Make the Trip for the Gardens

Give the Gardens the Afternoon

What about going to Kaua’i expressly to stay in a great big garden? The beach belongs in the plan, of course. So does a proper massage appointment. But deciding how much time to leave for wandering the grounds already feels like the beginning of a holiday.

Grand Hyatt Kaua’i Resort & Spa sits at Keoneloa Bay in Po’ipū, on the south shore. Beyond the white sand, gardens and pools spread across 50 acres. The open-air Anara Spa and Poipu Bay Golf Course are part of the picture. This is the appeal of a classic Hawaiian resort: space for the holiday to unfold.

I like the importance it gives to wandering. A walk through the grounds can have the afternoon to itself. Go to the beach and decide how long to stay once you are there. If the hotel brought you here, let it take up much of the trip.

Returning to the same place has its pleasures. Golf today, a massage tomorrow, sometimes just a walk. Taking those small wishes seriously is a good way to choose a hotel.

A Massage for You, Golf for Your Companion

Start with a massage at Anara Spa, then consider the golf course. Poipu Bay Golf Course, home of the PGA Grand Slam of Golf, gives golfers a reason to set aside time. You can each do what appeals, then meet again at dinner.

The open-air spa suggests an unhurried stretch of the day. Leave time for the gardens before or after your treatment. Keep the next appointment well away from it.

The resort’s notice dated 17 September 2026 reported normal hotel operations. All spa services and retail, along with all golf course services, had returned to regular hours. The lap pool was open to all guests.

Ilima Terrace and Honolulu Coffee Co. cover breakfast and coffee. Kaua’i Poke has reopened for lunch, and Seaview Terrace has resumed regular service. Shops and daily cultural and wellness activities are running too. With those everyday stops accounted for, I can finally close a few research tabs.

Take Your Coffee onto the Lanai

The room feature I would make time for is the private lanai. Take your morning coffee outside. Having nowhere to go just yet can be a perfectly good plan. A carefully chosen room deserves some of your waking hours.

The category compared here is 1K PRT RESORT VW: 500 square feet, one king pillow-top bed and a private lanai. The resort view suits a trip centered on spending time within the property.

If seeing the ocean every day is part of the holiday you want, book the view you need. Saying so when choosing the room is more comfortable than waiting for a surprise on arrival. Coffee outdoors and hours looking at the sea call for different priorities.

The Same Room, a Lower Bill

Once this kind of stay appeals, the rate comparison becomes useful. For the same room category, the advisor-only rate is USD 4,372.62, compared with USD 5,416.83 for the public refundable STANDARD RATE. The room stays the same. Less of the budget goes towards it.

On the dates I checked, the advisor-only rate also came in below the public ADVANCE PURCHASE rate. As an advisor, I can easily make a comparison table longer. This one can stop here. Spending what remains does not require another assignment from me.

If Maui Comes Next

Keep Chef Peter Merriman’s The Beach House Restaurant in mind if you are continuing to Maui. It is expected to open by the end of 2026 at Keawakapu beach, on the former Five Palms site. Wait for confirmation before planning a meal.

Lahaina’s temporary market, ʻUlu o Lele, is opening this fall at the former Outlets of Maui site. It is another place to keep an eye on when planning time around the neighborhood.

Check the Water Activities Separately

The saltwater lagoon sustained significant damage and is expected to remain closed for several months. Repairs before the festive holiday season remain an expectation. The luau is also paused; neither has a confirmed reopening date. If lagoon snorkeling, kayaking or scuba diving lessons are your reason for coming, wait for reopening news.

The adult pool, river pool, water slide and action pool were expected to reopen on 27 September 2026, along with poolside service. Tidepools was scheduled to resume regular hours and service that day. Grand Club is scheduled to follow on 1 October 2026.
